Gardens are often seen as spaces linking the place you come from with the place you call home now. Planting a seed brings up the question: H ow long will I be able to care for its growth here? Through photography, in terview excerpts, short films, and a fermentation workshop, this project tr ansports visitors to Transcarpathia, Western Ukraine. In a region marked by war, displacement, and prolonged uncertainty, gardens offer routine, conti nuity and relief.
The exhibitio n introduces the lives of ethnic Hungarian minority women who have remained in their homes and communities. They have been cultivating their gardens d espite unpredictable daily life, difficult economic conditions and the ongo ing war, which have pushed many local men, their husbands, sons, neighbours , to Western Europe, tearing families apart.
This exhibition presents a selection of field notes a nd visual materials from Ágnes Erőss’ research project (2017–2026). In 2025 -2026, the research was carried out within the framework of the FemMinImm M SCA Seal of Excellence project, financed by the Autonomous Province of Boze n-Bolzano.
