From October 2 to 23, 2026, Centro Trevi in Bolzano hosts the exhibition “L'animale che dunque sono” by Jana Kasalová, curated by Miroslava Hájek and produced by Spazio5 Contemporary Cluster.
The exhibition explores the relationship between human and animal through photography and performance, inviting visitors to rethink identity, nature, and responsibility toward every form of life. The project stems from a long-term research the artist began in 2007, aiming to question the seemingly clear boundary between man and animal.
The exhibition's title refers to the famous reflection of philosopher Jacques Derrida, who reverses the Cartesian principle “I think, therefore I am” into “The animal that therefore I am.”
In Kasalová's work, the animal is not a subordinate presence but a place of encounter and mutual recognition, capable of opening new perspectives on the relationship between identity, nature, and culture.
