Il progetto di ricerca artistica indaga le interconnessioni storiche e contemporanee tra le idee di riforma ecologica, i modelli di società e le ideologie politiche, con un'attenzione particolare all'Alto Adige e all'Italia. Il punto di partenza è l'osservazione che i movimenti per la tutela della natura e l'ecologia, fin dalla loro nascita alla fine del XIX secolo, non siano stati plasmati esclusivamente da forze progressiste e democratiche, ma siano stati ripetutamente ripresi e ideologicamente appropriati anche da attori della destra e del fascismo. Su questo sfondo, il progetto si interroga sui meccanismi di appropriazione, sulle egemonie interpretative e sulle narrazioni concorrenti che caratterizzano gli attuali dibattiti sull'ecologia, la giustizia climatica e la responsabilità sociale. Nello specifico, l'artista indaga il rapporto tra le politiche di industrializzazione e di italianizzazione del fascismo in Alto Adige e i movimenti di riforma ecologica sviluppatisi nello stesso periodo nei paesi di lingua tedesca. Luogo della ricerca artistica è il quartiere delle Semirurali, costruito negli anni Trenta nella parte meridionale di Bolzano, assunto come caso di studio per interrogare il significato culturale e politico del concetto di “ruralità” su cui esso si fonda. Il progetto analizza quali concezioni dello spazio rurale, della natura e di una vita ritenuta “originaria” siano state elaborate nei discorsi fascisti e nazionalisti in Italia e in Germania e in che modo tali immaginari continuino a esercitare la loro influenza fino a oggi.
Das künstlerische Forschungsprojekt untersucht die historischen und gegenwärtigen Verflechtungen von ökologischen Reformideen, Gesellschaftsentwürfen und politischen Ideologien mit einem besonderen Fokus auf Südtirol und Italien. Ausgangspunkt ist die Beobachtung, dass Naturschutz und Ökologie-Bewegungen seit ihrer Entstehung am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts nicht ausschließlich von progressiven, demokratischen Kräften geprägt wurden, sondern immer wieder auch von rechten und faschistischen AkteurInnen aufgegriffen und ideologisch vereinnahmt wurden. Vor diesem Hintergrund fragt das Projekt nach den Mechanismen der Aneignung, den Deutungshoheiten und konkurrierenden Narrativen in den aktuellen Debatten um Ökologie, Klimagerechtigkeit und gesellschaftlicher Verantwortung.
Konkret untersucht die Künstlerin die Frage, wie sich die Industrialisierungs- und Italienisierungspolitik des Faschismus in Südtirol zu den zeitgleich entstandenen ökologischen Reformbewegungen im deutschsprachigen Raum verhielt. Ort der künstlerischen Forschung ist dabei die in den 1930er Jahren entstandene Semirurali-Siedlung im Süden von Bozen, welche nach der ihr zu Grunde liegenden kulturellen und politischen Bedeutung des Begriffs „Ruralität“ befragt wird. Das Projekt analysiert, welche Vorstellungen vom ländlichen Raum, von Natur und einem „ursprünglichen“ Leben in faschistischen und nationalistischen Diskursen Italiens und Deutschlands entwickelt wurden und wie diese bis heute fortwirken.
The artistic research project investigates the historical and contemporary entanglements of ecological reform ideas, social models, and political ideologies, with a particular focus on South Tyrol and Italy. It is based on the observation that nature conservation and ecological movements, since their emergence at the end of the nineteenth century, have not been shaped exclusively by progressive and democratic forces, but have repeatedly been appropriated and ideologically instrumentalized by right-wing and fascist actors. Against this backdrop, the project explores the mechanisms of appropriation, interpretive authority, and competing narratives that shape current debates on ecology, climate justice, and social responsibility. More specifically, the artist examines the relationship between the Fascist policies of industrialization and Italianization in South Tyrol and the ecological reform movements that emerged simultaneously in the German-speaking world. The site of the artistic research is the Semirurali district in the southern part of Bolzano, built in the 1930s, which serves as a case study for investigating the cultural and political significance of the concept of “rurality” on which it was founded. The project analyses how ideas of the rural landscape, nature, and an “original” way of life were constructed within fascist and nationalist discourses in Italy and Germany, and how these imaginaries continue to resonate and exert influence to the present day.
